Haig Housing Trust, the UK’s largest veterans’ housing charity, has announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Sir Andy Kyte KBE CB FCILT as its new President and Tom Sharpe OBE as an Ambassador at its Annual General Meeting in September.

Sir Andy brings extensive senior leadership experience from a distinguished 39-year career in the Royal Navy as a Logistics Officer, serving in a wide range of maritime and joint appointments.

He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 2021 in recognition of his leadership of Defence’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and was knighted in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List.

Sir Andy joins Haig Housing at an important moment, as the charity prepares to move forward with a new development of veterans’ homes and a community centre in Morden, South London. These will open during the charity’s Centenary in 2028, supported by a major Capital Appeal aiming to raise £3 million.

Commenting on his appointment, Sir Andy said: “After nearly four decades in uniform, I know that service does not end when someone leaves the Armed Forces. For many veterans and their families, the next challenge is finding the security and stability of a home.”

“Haig Housing has stood alongside the Armed Forces community for almost a century, providing practical support where it matters most. As President, I look forward to helping the charity continue that mission and build the next generation of homes for veterans in housing need.”

The charity has also appointed Tom Sharpe OBE as an Ambassador.

Having served for more than 25 years in the Royal Navy, Tom is a communications consultant and award-winning defence commentator writing regularly in publications including The Daily Telegraph. In his new role, he will help Haig Housing raise awareness of its work and support fundraising activity for veterans and their families.

Tom Sharpe OBE said: “Having served at sea and alongside Service people throughout my career, I have seen how important a safe, secure base is for military families. Haig Housing does vital work providing that stability, and I am proud to support its efforts to raise awareness, strengthen its voice and help more veterans and their families find a place to call home.”
