Thank You to the Army Benevolent Fund
The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), the Army’s national charity, has awarded a further grant of £150,000 to Haig Housing Trust, the UK’s leading housing charity for veterans, for works in homes occupied by Army veterans. This funding has enabled the refurbishment of kitchens and bathrooms in homes across the country, ensuring safe, modern, and energy-efficient living spaces for those who have served.
Grants from the ABF in recent years have already supported the replacement and upgrade of nearly 50 kitchens and bathrooms in Haig Housing properties. These improvements will not only enhance comfort and safety but also contribute to the overall wellbeing of residents by creating homes that promote dignity, independence and mental health.
For veteran families, these improvements can be transformative. Former soldier, William, a beneficiary of the programme, said:
“The kitchen refurbishment has made such a difference to our lives. Thanks to the Army Benevolent Fund’s generous grant to Haig Housing, we now have a beautiful new kitchen where my family can cook, eat and spend time together.”
Each refurbishment includes modern fittings, improved ventilation and long-lasting, hygienic materials designed to create healthier environments, reduce condensation and mould risks and making veterans’ homes more comfortable.
Tim Stockings, Chief Executive at Haig Housing Trust, said:
“We are extremely grateful to the Army Benevolent Fund for their support in helping Haig Housing improve homes for veterans and their families. We are committed to making homes more comfortable, energy efficient and safer and grants like these mean that we can do more, faster”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer at the Army Benevolent Fund, added:
“Safe and secure housing is fundamental to the welfare of veterans and their families. Haig Housing provides this stability, often at critical moments, and these refurbishments make a tangible difference to daily life. Our funding will help ensure Army families can live in homes that support their health, dignity and longterm independence.”
Haig Housing manages over 1,500 homes across 50 locations, including its largest estate in Morden, South London. The charity continues to work closely with partners like ABF to deliver housing solutions that meet the evolving needs of the veteran community.
