Rakesh is the senior professional who manages and oversees all of Haig’s financial affairs. These include budgets, income, cash flow, accounting for rent and the payment of suppliers.

Pat is responsible for all legal, contractual and governance interfaces. He also heads the HR aspects of the Trust by managing the complaints process, internal communications and IT plus oversees external communications and fundraising.

John Lau

John Lau

Housing & Development Director

John is responsible for all tenancy and Housing Law matters. Alongside this, he leads on all new building developments and the refurbishment of existing Haig properties and estates.

David Williams

David Williams

Chair of Trustees

David Williams has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2015 and was appointed Chair in October 2019. He is a former regular and reserve Royal Artillery officer, serving in the UK, Germany and the Falkland Islands. His last appointment was as Battery Commander of 265 (Home Counties) Battery RA in S.E. London.

David enjoyed a 27-year banking career with Barclays in London, New York and Singapore, specialising in risk management, and is currently a non-executive director of the Bank of London & the Middle East. David is Deputy Chairman of Care for Veterans, which operates a 60-bed hospital for physically disabled veterans in Worthing, West Sussex.

Stephen Elliott

Stephen has worked for over 20 years in the London property market specialising in investment and complex development work for a variety of private and institutional clients including major Retail Banks, Investment Banks, various Local Authorities and other public bodies such as the BBC as well as acting for a variety of large Pension Funds and a number of large family offices, private investment companies as well as various high net worth individuals. Joined Haig Housing as a trustee in September 2015 with the intention of utilising his property industry experience and contacts for the benefit of Haig Housing.Outside work,

Stephen is a keen sportsman – being more of a fan than a player these days – watching Cricket and Rugby in particular and suffering for being a Nottingham Forest fan. He volunteers as a Rugby Coach for London Scottish U13s and still manages to play Tennis a couple of times a week. He is also a keen race goer and has been known to place an occasional wager.

Sarah Fernandes

Sarah Fernandes has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2020, serving on our Nomination and Remuneration Committee. She comes with twenty years’ experience in senior roles within Human Resources; this includes 17 years of dedicated service in the not for profit sector with appointments in organisations that support vulnerable groups. Sarah currently works for SSAFA, where she provides leadership and management in the delivery of a HR service that spans in the UK and internationally. Her expertise lies in change management and structural redesign, project management, employee relations and development, and she champions diversity & inclusion.

Paul Findlay

Paul Findlay

Trustee

Paul has been a Haig trustee since 2020 and serves on our Audit & Risk Committee. Originally from Glasgow, he was 17 when he joined the Army in 2002. After joining the Royal Signals as a communications engineer, he deployed on three operational tours of Iraq serving with JHF Command, Scots Dragoon Guards and an attachment to the Australian Defence Force. In 2009 Paul deployed to Afghanistan with the 19 Brigade Reconnaissance Force (BRF) where he was unfortunately involved in an IED strike which resulted in the loss of his right leg, and was medically discharged from the Army in 2012.

Currently Paul is a support officer for Blesma – The Limbless Veterans, responsible for Blesma members within the London and South East region. He was also appointed to the Veterans Advisory & Pensions Committee and is a member of the NHS(E) Armed Forces PPV Advisory Group. Paul has previously worked for Barclays Bank where he helped implement the Barclays Armed Forces Transition, Employment & Resettlement (AFTER) Initiative. He then went on to work in their Community Investment Team working with various charities in the employability,enterprise and financial education space.

In his spare time Paul is a keen cyclist who was part of a team who cycled around all English Premier League stadiums raising c£250k for charity, an avid football fan and enjoys travelling to new and exciting places.

Monique Green

Monique Green

Trustee

Monique has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2020 and serves on our Strategy & Development Committee. She has over 10 years’ experience in the housing sector and is passionate about ensuring the provision of good quality affordable housing and support for the most vulnerable in our society. Monique has completed the CIH level 5 Diploma in Housing and acquired Chartered status in 2017.

In her current role, with the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government, Monique developed the response to the ‘strengthening redress in the housing sector’ consultation, collaborating with key policy officials and redress providers within the sector. Following the publication of the response, Monique supported the delivery of two key government priorities; No-Deal Brexit preparations where she led the mobilisation programme to ensure all 343 local authorities in the England were prepared. Monique is currently seconded to the Number 10 Covid-19 taskforce supporting the delivery of policy and strategy for the UK’s response to and recovery from Covid-19.

Luise Locke

Luise Locke

Trustee

Luise Locke has been a trustee of Haig Housing Trust since 2017; she lives in Edinburgh and chairs the Haig Scotland Committee. She was a partner in the Edinburgh law firm, Murray Beith & Murray WS from 1989 and thereafter called to the Scots Bar (Faculty of Advocates) in 2000 to specialise in commercial, agricultural and residential landlord/tenant law amongst other areas.

Since 2006 Luise has been a trustee of the Faculty of Advocates 1985 Charitable Trust (SC12486) which provides assistance to dependents of deceased members of the Faculty and members permanently incapacitated from practice; she was appointed Chair in October 2014. Luise has also held directorships in private companies and graduated MBA from Edinburgh University Business School in 1999.

Dick Steele

Dick Steele joined Haig Housing in 2019. He is Chairman of Portmeirion Group plc which manufactures pottery and household goods under the Portmeirion, Spode, Royal Worcester, Wax Lyrical, Pimpernel and Nambe’ brand names. He is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor.

Ian Vere Nicoll MBE

Ian Vere Nicoll

Vice Chair

Ian Vere Nicoll has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2018. He is a former regular Royal Artillery officer who served in UK, Germany, Northern Ireland and Bosnia. He commanded the King’s Troop RHA and 14 Regiment RA. He was the General and Regimental Secretary of the Royal Regiment of Artillery for 13 years running their numerous Charities, which included some housing. He is also a Trustee of the Forces Pension Society Charitable Fund.

Andrew Weir

Andrew Weir has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2018, serving on our Strategy Committee.

He started his career over 30 years ago at Saatchi & Saatchi then, following a short three year posting in Hong Kong in 2001, he returned to the London HQ of the Publicis Media – a global communications consulting and investment agency. He has a leadership role at Publicis working with blue chip global clients; on strategy, creativity and new ways of working a new communications world driven by changes in technology, digital and data.

Mark Weir

Dr Mark Weir has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2017 and is a member of our Nomination & Remuneration Committee. He is a serving regular Royal Army Medical Corps officer and his current appointment is as the Regional Consultant in Occupational Medicine covering the North East. His main role is as the Medical Advisor to the Trust.

Neil White

Neil White

Trustee

Neil White has been a trustee of Haig Housing since 2015 and is currently chair of the Strategy and Development Committee. Neil was a solicitor in the City of London for 40 years, specialising in construction and property development. Latterly, he was also the firm’s General Counsel, responsible, amongst other things, for governance and regulatory compliance.

Neil is also a Trustee of the Orpheus Centre, a further education college for young adults with SEND who also have an interest in and an aptitude for the performing arts, and the Shepperd Trust which provides accommodation for elderly ladies who are unable to access local authority or other affordable housing.
